Real Madrid announced today, Friday, the signing of the young midfielder Franco Mastantuono from the Argentine club River Plate in a six-year contract. The Spanish club agreed to sign Mastantuono, 17 years old, for around $45 million last week. The talented player, who plays as a winger, will join Real Madrid starting from August 14th. Mastantuono, who progressed through River Plate's youth ranks, became part of the first team during the 2024-2025 season. In February of last year, he became the youngest goal scorer in River Plate's history. He also became the youngest player to play an official match for Argentina at the age of 17 when he played against Chile last week in the World Cup qualifiers. Mastantuono has been linked with other top European clubs like Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain after catching attention with a stunning free-kick goal in River Plate's victory over Boca Juniors in a local derby last April. Mastantuono is the third player to join Real Madrid during the summer transfer window, following the signings of Premier League defenders Dean Howsen and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
