"Sotheby's" auction house in New York witnessed an exceptional event last Friday; where a rare violin dating back to 1714 by the famous instrument maker Antonio Stradivari was sold. This valuable violin, known as "Joachim-Ma Stradivarius," was sold for $11.3 million in a public auction, becoming the third-highest amount ever paid for a musical instrument in auction history.
The president of Sotheby's in the Americas, Mary Claudia Jimenez, described this violin as 'a masterpiece blending craftsmanship and classical music history,' noting that its unique sound and historical record have attracted a large number of musical instrument collectors and musicians.
The name of the violin "Joachim-Ma Stradivarius" traces back to its previous owners, including the famous 19th-century musician Joseph Joachim. This rare violin was once owned by the musician C. H. Ma, who gifted it to the New England Conservatory in Boston with the condition of later selling it to support study grants.
It is worth mentioning that the record for the highest price ever paid for a violin at auction is still held by the "Lady Blunt" violin, which was sold in 2011 for $15.9 million. This event highlights the growing interest in rare and valuable musical instruments in the global auction market.
