Pedersen condemns Israeli airstrikes on Syria and calls for an end to violations

The Special Envoy of the United Nations to Syria, Geir Pedersen, condemned the Israeli airstrikes that targeted the capital Damascus, resulting in three deaths and 34 injuries, in addition to significant material damage to properties.

A statement published on Pedersen's official website stated: "We urge Israel to immediately stop all violations of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and refrain from taking unilateral actions that escalate the conflict".

The UN envoy also emphasized the need to enhance political consensus among the Syrian parties, saying that "building a foundation of political consensus that can be a factor of stability, representing the unity and diversity of the country in all its components", warning against any actions that may threaten these goals.

Regarding the developments in the province of Suwayda, Pedersen called for "immediate de-escalation and protection of civilians, and a return to dialogue", while also demanding "a transparent and public investigation and accountability of those responsible for the violations".
