Pedersen urges the international community to lift sanctions on Syria.

The UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, emphasized the need to lift the international sanctions imposed on Syria and support its government's efforts in reconstruction and achieving stability during his participation in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
This came in a speech delivered by Pedersen today in a session titled "Syria.. Land of Reconciliation and Reconstruction" during the fourth edition of the forum held in Turkey.
Pedersen stated: "The international community must lift the sanctions imposed on Syria," pointing out that "dialogue with the Syrian government is progressing positively, but it needs international support to succeed in the reconstruction process."
The UN envoy explained that "President Bashar al-Assad took over a country suffering from comprehensive destruction on both security and social levels, making reconstruction a major challenge," emphasizing that achieving stability and preserving the unity of Syrian territories "require effective assistance from the international community."
Pedersen also warned of the danger of "repeated Israeli attacks on Syrian territories," describing them as "playing with fire," as they pose a direct threat to the region's security and stability.
