North Korea is testing advanced weapons on a warship and enhancing its naval nuclear armament.

The official Korean Central News Agency reported today, Wednesday, April 30, that leader Kim Jong Un personally supervised tests of advanced missile launches from a modern destroyer, calling for enhancing the North Korean navy's nuclear attack capabilities.
This move comes days after Pyongyang unveiled a new warship weighing 5,000 tons, described as being "equipped with the most powerful weapons" in its naval arsenal.
Kim emphasized that this destroyer represents a "significant advancement" in enhancing the armed nuclear capabilities of the North Korean army, especially in carrying out preemptive strikes and expanding military operations.
According to the official agency, the tests included launching missiles exceeding the speed of sound, strategic "cruise" missiles, as well as anti-aircraft missiles, artillery, and electronic jamming systems.
Kim praised the combat readiness of the ship, indicating that it will be officially integrated into the fleet early next year, and outlined urgent tasks to accelerate the naval nuclear armament.
During the inauguration ceremony, the North Korean leader affirmed that the next goal is to possess a nuclear-powered submarine, considering it a crucial step in facing the "escalating American hostility," as he put it.
This announcement comes amid escalating regional tensions, with Pyongyang continuing to enhance its military cooperation with Russia. In a related development, North Korea admitted for the first time on Monday to sending combat forces to Russian territories to support military operations in Ukraine, earning praise from Russian President Vladimir Putin, who promised not to forget the "sacrifices of North Korean soldiers."
