The Syrian feature film "This is My Night" has achieved a remarkable success by winning the Best Screenplay award in the Long Films Competition at the sixth edition of the Casablanca International Arab Film Festival in Morocco.
The film revolves around the character of Rabia, a young artist suffering from severe depression, who lives with her retired father.
One ordinary afternoon, she confesses to her father her intention to end her life by suicide. Amid their conversations about the past, family, death, and engaging in daily activities like preparing lunch and listening to music, the father tries hard to persuade his daughter to change her mind.
Nevertheless, the ending remains open as Rabia seizes her gun and withdraws to her room.
The film blends psychological and humanistic elements in a contemplative visual style, offering a sensitive portrayal of depression and internal conflict within a dramatic space centered on dialogue and deep emotions.
"This is My Night" marks the directorial debut of the artist Jafra Younes, who directed and produced the film, and starred alongside the actor Hassan Al Saleh. The screenplay was written by the writer Kifah Zeini.
