The Central Court in Israel rejected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's request to postpone his corruption trial sessions, affirming that the request "does not provide any clear justification for canceling the hearings."
This rejection came despite previous calls from US President Donald Trump to cancel the trial, describing the case as a "persecution campaign."
Netanyahu had requested through his lawyers to postpone his testimony for the next two weeks, citing "regional and global developments" following escalating tensions between Israel and Iran, emphasizing the need to dedicate his time to managing security and diplomatic issues, especially the war in Gaza and the prisoner issue.
On the other hand, Netanyahu expressed his gratitude for Trump's strong support for Israel, saying via the "X" platform:
"I was deeply moved by your strong and great support for Israel and the Jewish people."
It is worth noting that Netanyahu faces several corruption charges, including allegations of him and his wife receiving luxury gifts worth over $260,000 from businessmen in exchange for political services, as well as charges of attempting to negotiate favorable media coverage in Israeli media outlets.
He denies all accusations, considering them a political campaign against him.
Since the trial began in May 2020, the sessions have witnessed multiple postponements at Netanyahu's request, amid widespread political and legal controversy in Israel.
