Iran Buries Military Commanders and Nuclear Scientists Killed in War with Israel

Tehran, the capital of Iran, witnessed today, Saturday, June 28, an official funeral procession for sixty military commanders and nuclear scientists who fell during the recent war with Israel, amidst tense atmosphere with renewed American threats of possibly targeting Iran again.
The official television broadcast scenes of the large crowds gathered in the city center, announcing the start of honoring the "martyrs of the war imposed by the Zionist entity", where mourners carried coffins covered with Iranian flags and pictures of the victims in military attire.
The funeral procession started from Enghelab (Revolution) Square towards Azadi (Freedom) Square, with prominent official participation including President Masoud Bazkian, Quds Force Commander Ismail Qaani, and Ali Shamkhani, the advisor to the Supreme Leader who was previously injured in an Israeli strike.
The ceremony followed a statement by the religious official Mohsen Mahmoudi, who described today as "historic for Iran and the revolution", while government institutions and shops closed their doors mourning the victims.
The crisis escalated after a sudden Israeli attack targeted Iranian military and nuclear facilities, resulting in the deaths of several prominent leaders, including Chief of Staff Mohammad Baqeri, Revolutionary Guards Commander Hossein Salami, and nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.
Official figures indicate the deaths of 627 Iranian civilians and 28 Israelis, while the fragile ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump continues to face a tough test amidst his recent warnings of the possibility of renewed strikes if what he described as "Iranian threats" persist.
Observers are anticipating whether Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei will lead the funeral prayer, a step Iranian authorities are accustomed to taking during the funerals of senior figures.
