In a tragic event, more than a thousand people lost their lives due to a massive landslide that swept through an entire village in the Jebel Marra region of western Sudan, as announced by the "Sudan Liberation Army" on Monday night to Tuesday.
The incident occurred last Sunday as a result of heavy rainfall in the area, leading to devastating landslides that completely destroyed the village of "Tarsin" located east of Jebel Marra, near the Soni area.
The movement, led by Abdel Wahid Nour, confirmed that this disaster claimed the lives of all the villagers, estimated to be more than a thousand people, with only one person surviving the incident.
In the context of the incident, the movement stated that the village had been "completely leveled" due to the massive landslide, calling on the international community, the United Nations, and regional and international humanitarian organizations to take urgent action to provide support, especially in recovering the bodies of the victims buried under the rubble.
The movement pointed out that many residents who had fled the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in North Darfur had sought refuge in this mountainous area in search of safety, but they faced difficult living conditions due to a lack of food and medicine.
On the other hand, the raging war in Sudan for the past two years has exacerbated the crisis of hunger and displacement, as millions of citizens are facing harsh humanitarian conditions across the country, especially in North Darfur where the state capital, El Fasher, remains under threat of bombardment.
