Russia criticized today, Friday, the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron in which he described his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin as a "monster at our gates," considering that this style is unworthy of the position of a head of state.
The Russian response came through the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, who said at a press conference in Moscow that Macron continues to make "strange" statements that exceed the limits of decorum, describing them as having reached a level of "low insults."
Macron made this statement during a press interview last week, in the context of his repeated warnings about Russian threats, amid his continued support for Ukraine in the face of the Russian invasion.
Tensions between Paris and Moscow are escalating against the backdrop of differing positions on the war in Ukraine, where Russia accuses the French president of adopting an aggressive rhetoric, while France asserts that Macron's statements are part of defending European security.
