Minister of Emergencies Confirms Halt to Spread of Fires in Most Dangerous Fronts in Latakia Countryside
The Minister of Emergencies and Disaster Management of Syria, Raed Al-Saleh, confirmed today, Friday, the halt to the spread of fires in the most dangerous fronts in Latakia countryside, indicating that the Qastal Ma'af - Kasp road poses no danger and has been temporarily closed to civilians except for emergency and ambulance cases to ensure the continuity of work until full control over the fires is achieved.

In a tweet on "Twitter", the Minister said: "Our ninth day in confronting the fires, and progress is evident. During the night hours and this morning, the civil defense teams, firefighting brigades, and supporting teams managed to halt the spread of fires in the most dangerous fronts: Jabal Al-Nisr, Firinlq Forests, and Al-Atira despite the strong winds that increased the difficulty of the mission".

He added: "The current focus is on dealing with the active fire spots and cooling operations. We still have a long way to go to complete the mission, but the indicators are positive. The unburned areas are still vast, and the rapid intervention over the past two days has significantly reduced the fire's scope. We acknowledge the extent of the losses, but the field reality indicates that we are gradually gaining ground. The forests are not over, and the work continues to protect them".

Regarding what some media outlets have circulated about the closure of the Qastal Ma'af - Kasp road in northern Latakia countryside due to the forest fires reaching it today, the Minister confirmed that the road is passable and does not pose any direct danger to civilians. Firefighting teams have been working since yesterday to stop the fire from spreading in this front and secure the area completely on both sides of the road.

The Minister of Emergencies pointed out that due to the nature of the work on-site and the fact that the road is the main supply artery for the firefighting teams, the increased movement of civilians has disrupted the extinguishing operations and slowed down the arrival of water tankers and heavy machinery. Therefore, the Operations Room, in coordination with the Ministry of Interior, decided to temporarily close the road to civilians, except for emergency and ambulance cases, to ensure the speed and continuity of field work until full control over the fires is achieved.
