Minister of Education Dr. Mohammed Abdul Rahman Turko met today, Tuesday, with the Special Envoy of the United Nations to Syria, Geir Pedersen, to discuss the current developments in the Syrian educational sector. Both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing mutual cooperation between the Syrian government and the United Nations in the educational field, to improve the quality of education and provide a suitable environment for students and teachers. They also discussed issues related to educational curricula, new administrative structures for the ministry, as well as ways to improve the situation of teachers to ensure every child's right to education, while addressing the challenges facing the ministry at present. Minister Turko presented the rapid response plan and the strategic path for the future of education in Syria, which includes implementing a package of emergency measures for the current year, along with developing a strategy for the coming years, expressing his gratitude for Pedersen's positive role in lifting sanctions on Syria. Minister Turko noted that since the liberation of the country, the ministry has been working on restoring destroyed schools, and developing plans for vocational education to support the reconstruction process and establish centers for educational innovation in each province. Pedersen, in turn, expressed the United Nations' readiness to cooperate in the educational field, admiring the emergency response plan recently announced by the ministry and its comprehensiveness.
