Libya: Call for an urgent meeting to discuss the appointment of Saddam Haftar as Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Libyan Presidential Council, Abdullah Al-Lafi, called for an urgent meeting to discuss the decision to appoint Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar as Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces, a move that has raised controversy over its legality.
Al-Lafi clarified that any changes in senior positions within the military institution must be made by a decision from the Supreme Commander of the Army, which is the Presidential Council as a whole, according to the applicable legislation.
He emphasized that respecting the laws governing the military's work and ensuring adherence to legal pathways is essential to maintaining the unity of the military institution and the independence of its decisions, warning against any violations that may affect the cohesion of the army and its national role.
