Barcelona, the defending champion of the Spanish football league, was shocked after confirming that its Polish international top scorer Robert Lewandowski will be out for some time due to an injury to his left thigh.
Lewandowski has been excluded from the Catalan club's squad for the match against Italian Como in the Gamper Cup tomorrow, Sunday, amid doubts about his participation against Real Mallorca next week in the opening of the Spanish league.
For its part, the newspaper "AS" reported on Saturday that the 36-year-old Polish player could be sidelined for three weeks, which may prevent him from facing Mallorca, Levante, and Rayo Vallecano, and he might make his first appearance in mid-September after the international break when Barcelona meets Valencia.
In a statement on its official website, Barcelona said: "First team player Robert Lewandowski is suffering from a problem with the tendons in his left thigh, the striker is unavailable for Sunday’s match."
Lewandowski scored 42 goals in 52 matches across all competitions last season, which saw Barcelona crowned with a domestic treble (league, cup, and super cup), noting that he finished second in the league's top scorers ranking with 27 goals, 4 goals behind Frenchman Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid.
