Aoun: Lebanon is keen on establishing good relations with Syria and rejects normalization with Israel

Lebanese President Michel Aoun affirmed his country's keenness to strengthen relations with Syria, emphasizing his country's steadfast positions regarding arms control and rejection of normalization with Israel, in official statements published today.
Aoun stated that Lebanon "is keen on establishing good relations with Syria", while also confirming "non-interference in the internal affairs of both countries".
Regarding the issue of arms in Lebanon, President Aoun announced that "the decision to confine arms to the Lebanese state has been made and is irreversible", emphasizing that "the decision of war or peace is within the authority of the Council of Ministers", reaffirming adherence to constitutional institutions as the sole reference for making crucial decisions.
As for Lebanon's stance on normalization with Israel, Aoun said: "Normalization with Israel is not on the current Lebanese political agenda".
