According to "SANA," remnants of the ousted Assad regime attacked a checkpoint of the General Security Administration near the city of Jableh and targeted civilian cars.
The director of security in Latakia province stated: "Our forces have now imposed a security cordon to besiege the Assad remnants and lawless gangs in the villages of Beit Anan and Daliyah in the countryside of Latakia."
He added: "The armed groups clashing with our security forces in the Latakia countryside were affiliated with the war criminal 'Suhail al-Hassan,' who committed heinous massacres against the Syrian people."
The attack resulted in the injury of Al Jazeera correspondent "Riyad al-Hussein" after being directly targeted by the armed groups while covering the city.
A source in the Syrian Ministry of Defense confirmed that massive military reinforcements are heading to the Jableh area and its countryside to support the General Security forces and restore stability to the region.
After hours of intensified clashes, the director of the General Security Administration in Latakia province, Major Mustafa Kanafti, stated: "Government buildings, public properties, and even private properties have not been spared from the remnants' attacks, as they have vandalized and destroyed public facilities."
He affirmed: "Our forces are on full alert, and we managed to repel their attack in the Jableh countryside. The clashes are still ongoing with them inside the city."
He added: "We reassure our civilian people that we have successfully repelled their treacherous attack, and we will work on eliminating their presence and freeing society from their evil. We will restore stability to the area and protect our people's properties."
The events coincided with several demonstrations in Homs, Latakia, and Idlib in support of the General Security and condemnation of the unlawful attacks carried out by lawless groups. The General Security Administration in Tartous province also announced a curfew in the city starting from 10:00 PM until 10:00 AM.
