The Israeli police announced last night, Sunday, the arrest of Israeli citizens on charges of espionage with Iran, in a joint security operation with the Shin Bet and the "Yamam" special unit.
According to the official statement, the arrests took place on June 15 as part of what was described as a "security case by order of Iranian intelligence agencies," and is part of 22 cases thwarted since the outbreak of the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
The authorities confirmed that there have been repeated attempts by Tehran to recruit Israelis to carry out tasks that threaten national security.
On the other hand, Iran also announced the arrest of two individuals, whom they said were "members of a Mossad cell," in Alborz province in the north of the country, adding that they were manufacturing explosives and electronic devices in a hideout in the "Savojbolagh" area, as reported by Tasnim Agency.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Intelligence warned on Saturday that any intelligence cooperation with Mossad is a serious crime that warrants the harshest penalties, affirming that carrying out media or promotional activities supportive of Israel falls under this warning.
Additionally, Iranian authorities announced the arrest of 5 individuals in the city of Yazd in central Iran, accused of taking photos and cooperating with Israel, after Israel broadcasted footage last Friday showing Mossad agents carrying out drone attacks from inside Iranian territory.
These developments come amidst escalating tensions between Tehran and Tel Aviv, following a series of mutual attacks that included assassinations targeting senior Iranian military leaders and 14 nuclear scientists, reflecting an unprecedented intelligence penetration into Iranian territory.
