Iran executes "Mossad spy" and arrests another while trying to flee.

Iranian judicial authorities announced today, Monday, June 16, the execution of citizen Ismail Fakri after being convicted of spying for the Israeli intelligence agency (Mossad), as reported by the semi-official Fars news agency.
Fakri was arrested in 2023 on charges of dealing with Mossad, marking the third of its kind in recent weeks as part of Tehran's campaign against what it describes as "spy elements."
In a related development, Iranian security sources reported the arrest of a "senior Mossad spy" while trying to escape from the border city of "Panah" with Iraq in Kurdistan province, western Iran. The arrest came as part of escalating measures against what Iran calls "Israeli espionage cells."
Iranian police also announced on Sunday the arrest of two members of a Mossad cell in Alborz province in northern Iran, stating that they were "involved in manufacturing bombs, explosives, and electronic equipment hidden in the Savojbolagh area" (according to Tasnim news agency).
The Revolutionary Guards intelligence warned on Saturday that "any intelligence cooperation with Mossad, or communication with individuals linked to Israel, is a crime punishable by law with the harshest penalties," amid escalating mutual accusations between the two countries.
In a related context, security forces arrested 5 individuals in Yazd, central Iran, on charges of "taking photos and cooperating with Israel," days after Israel broadcast footage showing Mossad agents inside Iranian territories launching drones towards military sites.
This escalation follows a wave of mutual assassinations, where Iran accused Israel of assassinating 14 nuclear scientists and military leaders, with reports indicating a "major intelligence breach" that may have enabled Tel Aviv to carry out its operations.
