Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shar'a arrived in Baku today, Saturday, on his first visit to Azerbaijan.
Al-Shar'a and his accompanying delegation met with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev at the Zogolba Palace in the capital Baku.
The visit comes after Azerbaijan decided to supply the new Syrian government with gas, as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier stated that Azerbaijan is ready to supply the new Syrian government with gas.
Erdogan said upon his return from the Economic Cooperation Organization summit in Azerbaijan: "President Ilham Aliyev's initiative is of great importance. Ultimately, the most critical issue in Syria today is the gas shortage, which is essential for the country's energy supply."
In May, a high-level Azerbaijani delegation visited Syria led by Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev, where they met with Al-Shar'a and several ministers and officials.
The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries after the fall of the previous regime, focusing on economic cooperation and the reconstruction of Syria, especially in the fields of energy, industry, health, and education.
The Azerbaijani delegation expressed their country's desire to actively and promptly contribute to the reconstruction of Syria, leveraging their expertise in oil, gas, and infrastructure, with readiness to start reconstruction projects immediately.
Discussions also included developing trilateral cooperation between Syria, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, and facilitating visits between officials and businessmen to enhance economic and political relations.
