The Republic of Iraq welcomed the decision to lift sanctions on Syria, expressing hope that this decision will contribute to supporting stability and ending the suffering of the Syrian people.

This was stated in a statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as reported by the "Iraqi News Agency (INA)," where the ministry welcomed "the announcement by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, of his intention to lift the sanctions imposed on the sisterly Arab Republic of Syria."

The statement added: "We hope that this decision will contribute to supporting the path of stability sought by the Syrian people and ending their prolonged suffering due to the humanitarian and economic crisis."

The statement also praised the Saudi role in this initiative, stating: "The ministry appreciates the intensive diplomatic efforts made by the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in supporting the Syrian people and reaching this initiative," emphasizing "the importance of Arab solidarity in this critical phase and the keenness to enhance cooperation among sisterly countries to serve common interests."

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry concluded its statement by affirming that this step could mark "the beginning of a new phase of international cooperation to end the Syrian crisis," calling for "support for comprehensive peaceful solutions that preserve the unity and sovereignty of Syria, and ensure the rights of all components of the Syrian people."
