Severe Heatwave Sweeps Syria with Temperatures Exceeding 46 Degrees Celsius

Syria is experiencing a severe heatwave pushing temperatures to unprecedented levels this season, with some areas recording temperatures exceeding 46 degrees Celsius, according to the Syrian Meteorological Department.
The meteorological department reported that temperatures in most provinces are surpassing 40 degrees Celsius, which is 4 to 6 degrees higher than seasonal averages, with expectations of continued hot to extremely hot weather in the coming days.
The hot weather has prevailed across various regions, with Aleppo reaching 45 degrees Celsius, Damascus 41 degrees, and Latakia 33 degrees. Eastern regions like Deir ez-Zor and Al-Hasakah recorded the highest temperatures at 46 degrees Celsius.
Coastal areas have seen an increase in cloud cover, while eastern and desert areas have been experiencing dusty conditions. Some areas, especially in the south and central regions, are expected to have gusty winds exceeding 55 km/h, which may raise dust and reduce visibility.
While daytime temperatures remain hot, nights will see a relative decrease in temperature, with moderate weather in most areas and cool temperatures in mountainous regions. Coastal areas will experience higher relative humidity.
In this context, the meteorological department has warned citizens against direct exposure to sunlight during peak hours, advised against lighting fires in agricultural and forested areas, and cautioned against leaving flammable materials in sun-exposed areas.
