The Syrian Anti-Narcotics Department, in cooperation with the Iraqi General Directorate for Drug Control, carried out a qualitative security operation today, Wednesday, resulting in the seizure of 1.35 million pills of the narcotic substance Captagon, which were intended for smuggling out of the country.
The Director of the Anti-Narcotics Department in Syria, Brigadier Khaled Eid, said: "We conducted a qualitative operation in cooperation with the Iraqi Anti-Drug Administration".
Eid added: "The operation led to the seizure of more than 1.3 million Captagon pills that were prepared for smuggling across the borders".
He pointed out that several individuals involved were arrested and referred to the competent judiciary.
He emphasized that the operation comes within the framework of efforts to eliminate this menace that threatens the security and safety of society.
The Iraqi Interior Ministry said in a statement: "The Iraqi Interior Minister announced from Basra province the arrest of a drug trafficking network and the seizure of 1.35 million narcotic pills in coordination and cooperation with the Anti-Narcotics Directorate in Syria".
The ministry added: "This achievement is a significant step in the context of joint international efforts to confront cross-border threats".
