The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Damascus organized a scientific day titled "Healthcare for Falls in the Elderly - The Role of the Multidisciplinary Team" in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund, with wide participation of lecturers and specialists in various fields.
The Syrian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Marwan Al-Halabi, emphasized the importance of healthcare in preventing falls among the elderly during the opening speech, stressing that aging is not a disease but a stage deserving respect and care.
Minister Al-Halabi also explained that the focus on the health of the elderly is an ethical responsibility reflecting the development of societies, and that the risks of falls indicate medical, psychological, and social challenges that require a multidisciplinary approach.
The Minister highlighted the necessity of adopting an integrated team approach in modern medicine, viewing the individual as a holistic unit, and confirming that the Ministry of Higher Education prioritizes specialized scientific activities as they directly impact the development of medical curricula and enhance the efficiency of personnel.
The scientific day held at the University of Damascus focused on the issue of sudden falls experienced by the elderly, which is considered an important health challenge facing societies amidst the increasing number of elderly individuals. The aim was to raise awareness in this field and promote a culture of multidisciplinary teamwork. The issue was approached from various angles, reflecting the importance of collaboration among different medical specialties in providing appropriate healthcare for this age group.
