The American billionaire Elon Musk has launched the new artificial intelligence model "Grok 3" through his startup company "xAI," with big promises that it will be the best in the market.
According to the company, "Grok 3" outperforms its competitors from "OpenAI," "Google," "DeepMind," and "Anthropic" in key criteria, after being tested under the code name "Chocolate" on the "Chatbot Arena" platform, which compares chatbots in benchmark tests.
Despite these claims, some remain skeptical about the actual superiority of "Grok 3."
Andrej Karpathy, one of the founders of "OpenAI" and former director of artificial intelligence at "Tesla," explained that "Grok 3" performs close to the latest "OpenAI" models, but it does not offer a significant qualitative leap that clearly sets it apart. He added that the new model is slightly better than "DeepSeek-R1" and "Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking," but it has not yet reached a level that makes it the top choice for users.
In recent days, images have surfaced showing the superiority of "Grok 3 Reasoning" over some "OpenAI" models, such as "o3 mini" and "o1," but these results have been questioned after the product engineer at "OpenAI," Rex Asabor, published an updated chart showing "o3's" superiority in areas such as mathematics and science.
Although "o3" has not been publicly released yet, this comparison has raised questions about the accuracy of "xAI's" claims.
"Grok" has evolved rapidly compared to the age of the company launched by Musk in 2023, while "Google" and "OpenAI" have been operating in the field for over a decade. According to Musk, "Grok 3" has been trained using 200,000 graphics processing units, ten times the power of "Grok 2," reinforcing the theory that increased computing power leads to improved performance.
However, this does not necessarily guarantee a consistently higher intelligence, as some experts like Gary Marcus, a researcher in artificial intelligence and neuroscience, doubt the sustainability of this approach in the long run.
Additionally, "Grok 3" still faces similar limitations to its competitors, suffering from a lack of humor sense and difficulty in creating "SVG" images.
In a notable move, Musk announced through the "X" platform that "Grok 3" will be available for free for a short period, without specifying the duration.
This free launch allows all "X" users, whether free or paid account holders, to experience the new model.
Subscribers to "Primum Plus" ($40 per month) and "SuperGrok" ($30 per month) will receive exclusive features such as "Voice Mode," providing an interactive voice experience.
In addition to advanced chat features, "Grok 3" can analyze images and answer complex questions, with the "Think" feature simulating human thinking, making it suitable for advanced uses in mathematics, science, and programming.
It also offers "DeepSearch," an advanced search engine that can summarize information more accurately.
The most important question remains: Will "Grok 3" bring about a real change in the artificial intelligence scene, or is it just a new competitor in a race that has not been decided yet?
The coming days will reveal its ability to establish itself in front of the giants of the field.
