The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, Wednesday, Paris's full support for the historic decision to lift European economic sanctions on Syria, which represents the implementation of commitments towards the Syrian government to support the country's economic reconstruction. The Ministry stated in a statement on its website: "Since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, France has always been at the forefront of initiatives to amend the European Union's sanctions policy towards Syria, and this European decision should allow Syria and Syrians to regain the path to prosperity, less than six months after the start of the transition." The Ministry pointed out that this European decision serves as a reminder of the EU's continued commitment, which stood alongside the Syrians who fought for their freedom and dignity since 2011, imposing sanctions on the Assad family, its supporters, and economic sectors that ensured the survival of a brutal regime. It emphasized that the European Union and its member states have been among the leading providers of humanitarian aid to Syria and the Syrian people over the past fifteen years. The Ministry concluded its statement by saying: "France confirms its readiness to cooperate with the Syrian authorities to contribute to the reconstruction of a new Syria, peaceful and respecting its diversity, away from any harmful foreign interference."
