Former Colonel "Salem Iskandar Taraf" was arrested in Daraa by Syrian security forces.

Syrian security forces have arrested Colonel "Salem Iskandar Taraf", the former head of the State Security branch in Daraa, who is considered one of the prominent leaders of the remnants of the former regime in the coastal region, in a security operation today, Monday, May 5.

Colonel Taraf hails from the village of Deir al-Bashal in the city of Banias and is the brother of Brigadier General "Ghassan Taraf", the former commander of the Republican Guard in Deir ez-Zor.

It is worth mentioning that Taraf had previously survived an assassination attempt in April 2023 in the city of Sanamein, where he was injured during the incident.

Taraf also played a prominent role in the battles that took place in Deir ez-Zor since 2016, leading armed groups during that period, most notably "Al-Qassem" and "Thunder Forces".
