In the context of the increasingly close Turkish-Syrian relations, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan visits the Syrian capital Damascus on an official visit that includes a series of meetings with senior Syrian officials, headed by the Foreign Minister, and according to reports, he is also expected to meet with Syrian President Ahmad al-Shara.
The visit has significant timing, amid tensions regarding the movements of the "SDF" (Syrian Democratic Forces) in northern and eastern Syria, where Ankara accuses these forces of not adhering to the agreement signed with the Syrian government on March 10, considering that their movements threaten the unity and integrity of Syrian territory and exploit the state of tension in southern Syria.
According to the Turkish Anadolu Agency, the discussions between the two sides are expected to cover several key issues, primarily the bilateral relations between Ankara and Damascus, ways to support reconstruction efforts in Syria, in addition to enhancing cooperation in the field of combating terrorism.
