"FAO warns of a catastrophic food crisis in Syria due to drought."

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has warned of the severe drought in Syria, which could lead to a loss of up to 75% of local wheat production, threatening the food security of millions of people.
The organization's representative in Syria, Tony El-Tell, stated in an exclusive interview with Reuters that the organization expects a "food deficit of around 2.7 million tons of wheat by 2025, enough to feed 16.3 million people for a full year," noting that this significant decline in crops signals a severe humanitarian crisis.
El-Tell called on the international community and humanitarian organizations for "urgent action" to support the Syrian agricultural sector and mitigate the effects of the drought, emphasizing that "lifting sanctions on Syria will help solve the problem by enabling the import of fertilizers and modern irrigation techniques."
