The Syrian Emergency and Disaster Management Minister Raed Saleh said today, Wednesday, that the number of displaced persons in the governorate of Sweida has exceeded 170,000 people.

In statements to the newspaper "Al-Watan", Saleh added: "The ministry supervises the operation of the two humanitarian crossings between Sweida and Daraa, where more than 15,000 citizens have been secured to cross out of Sweida, while about 3,000 people have entered through them."

The minister confirmed that the number of shelter centers has reached 86 centers, including 62 in Daraa governorate housing about 30,000 citizens, and 22 centers in the Sayyida Zainab area in rural Damascus receiving about 3,500 people.

He pointed out that "the residents in these centers are facing difficult living conditions, and the ministry, in cooperation with government and humanitarian agencies, is striving to secure basic needs and ensure an effective response."

Saleh added: "We affirm that protecting lives remains a top priority in all circumstances, until their safe and voluntary return to their homes."
