Elon Musk, the billionaire and CEO of SpaceX, called for the establishment of a tariff-free trade system between the United States and Europe, essentially creating a "free trade zone" between the two parties. This statement was made during his participation in a virtual event organized by the League of Independent States in Italy on Saturday, April 5, where he was interviewed by Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini. Musk emphasized that adopting a trade policy without customs duties between the two sides would be an ideal step, expressing hope for its realization. These remarks followed President Donald Trump's decision to impose new tariffs that shook global markets a few days ago. Musk also addressed the issue of freedom of movement between Europe and the United States, stating that individuals wishing to work in either region should be allowed to do so. He mentioned recommending this direction to President Trump, reiterating his support for right-wing European parties on previous occasions. Trump announced last Wednesday the imposition of new tariffs targeting over 180 countries and regions, including EU countries, as part of his trade policy. The White House also shared data on social media platforms showing the rates of tariffs imposed by other countries on American products, accusing them of "currency manipulation and imposing trade barriers."
