Jean-François Champollion, the Egyptologist specialized in deciphering hieroglyphic inscriptions at the Sorbonne University, revealed seven secret messages hidden in the engravings on the Luxor Obelisk, which adorns the Place de la Concorde in Paris since 1836.

Olivier-Bellay (37 years old) stated that these messages, decoded through the analysis of hieroglyphic signs and shapes, serve as royal propaganda glorifying the power of Pharaoh Ramses II, who ruled Egypt over 3000 years ago.

Olivier-Bellay explained that one of these messages, engraved on the western face of the obelisk, was directed at the aristocratic elite passing by boats on the Nile, describing it as a "propaganda message affirming the absolute sovereignty of Ramses II," as reported by the British newspaper "The Times."

The Luxor Obelisk dates back to the 13th century BC, being one of two obelisks carved during the reign of Ramses II to adorn the entrance of the Luxor Temple.

The obelisk was made of red granite extracted from Aswan and transported across the Nile to its original location. In 1830, Muhammad Ali Pasha gifted it to France, while the second obelisk remained in Egypt.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Olivier-Bellay noticed encrypted messages in the hieroglyphic inscriptions, meticulously studying them during his daily tours around the obelisk. The scaffolding placed around the monument during Paris's preparations for the 2024 Olympics helped him examine the inscriptions closely, especially those near the top of the obelisk.

The researcher discovered that some symbols could be read horizontally instead of the traditional vertical way, revealing hidden linguistic puzzles and manipulations.

Olivier-Bellay stated to the French magazine "Avenir," "I realized that the obelisk contains many encrypted symbols, decipherable only by the educated elite of that era."

He added that the purpose of these messages was to reinforce the idea that Ramses II was a chosen ruler by the gods, a direct descendant of the deities Amun-Ra and Mut, enhancing his political and religious legitimacy.

It is worth noting that the deciphering of hieroglyphs began in the 19th century thanks to the efforts of the scholar Jean-François Champollion, who relied on the Rosetta Stone to decode the ancient Egyptian writing. Today, Olivier-Bellay continues this scientific legacy with his new discoveries.

The detailed results of his research are expected to be published soon in the journal "ENiM" (Egypt and the Nile and the Mediterranean Sea), a French periodical specializing in Egyptology based in Montpellier.
