Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said that the ceasefire talks in Gaza have reached advanced stages and many issues have been resolved, with one remaining that efforts are being made to resolve as much as possible.
Shoukry added in statements to the press on Sunday that Egypt, in cooperation with Qatar and coordination with the United States, is working with both the Israeli and Palestinian sides to exert maximum pressure to quickly reach an agreement because the humanitarian situation has reached unprecedented catastrophic levels in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and in the history of the civilized world that raises the banners of human rights and respects the UN Charter, international law, and humanitarian law.
Shoukry mentioned that "unfortunately, the international community has failed miserably in this test by allowing these ongoing crimes to happen in plain sight and hearing of the world".
He reiterated that the displacement of Palestinians is a red line that Egypt will not allow to happen, noting that the Arab-Islamic plan guarantees the reconstruction of the sector without the need for any of its residents to leave.
In response to a question about the strength of the chances of preventing displacement, Shoukry said, "definitely, of course", explaining that once an agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza is reached, Egypt is keen to immediately call for the International Cairo Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction, with a large international participation to implement the Arab-Islamic plan and thwart the displacement plan "that we will not allow to happen".
The Egyptian minister spoke about "parties trying to sour relations with sisterly countries and trying through their false media platforms to undermine Egypt's role and asking why is the Rafah crossing closed?!"
