During the military parade in Beijing.. Open microphones capture the conversation between Xi and Putin

The open microphones during the preparations for the military parade in Beijing on Wednesday captured an unusual conversation between Chinese President Xi Jinping and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, in which they discussed topics of immortality and extending human life through advancements in organ transplantation.

In the footage broadcast by the official "CCTV" channel, President Xi Jinping is heard speaking in Mandarin Chinese: "These days.. at seventy years old," then the translator conveyed his words to Putin quoting a line from a Tang dynasty poem: "In the past, it was rare for one to live beyond seventy, and these days they say that one is still a child at seventy years old."

Russian President responded, according to the same translator, saying: "With the development of biotechnology.. human organs can be continuously transplanted and people can become younger as they age and even become immortal."

The Chinese president later replied: "Predictions in this century indicate that.. it may be possible to live up to one hundred and fifty years old."

President Putin later confirmed the content of this conversation during a press briefing, telling reporters: "I think the president spoke about that while we were heading to the parade," referring to Xi Jinping.

Putin added, clarifying: "Modern means, whether in terms of health improvement or medical procedures or even all types of surgeries related to organ transplantation, allow humanity to hope for a continuation of active life unlike what is the case today."

It is noteworthy that both presidents, each seventy-two years old, show no intention of stepping down from power. The Chinese president abolished in 2018 the provisions that imposed a maximum of two presidential terms, allowing him theoretically to remain in power for life, which was practically achieved by winning a third term in 2023.
