UN Welcomes Easing of Sanctions on Syria

The United Nations welcomed the signing of an executive order by US President Donald Trump lifting the sanctions imposed on Syria, emphasizing the importance of giving the Syrian people a chance to rebuild their country.
UN Secretary-General spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, said in the daily press briefing that the UN "has affirmed and continues to stress the importance of ensuring full benefit from all measures to ease sanctions, and providing financial support and resources in parallel".
He added: "In addition to easing sanctions, transparent and comprehensive political transition, as well as achieving security and protection for all Syrians, remain cornerstones for any lasting stability in Syria".
On the other hand, the UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, described the US action as "an important step towards recovery, stability, and building a better future", emphasizing the importance of giving the Syrian people a real opportunity to rebuild their country, as reported by the United Nations News website.
