Discussions between Syria and Iraq on the Euphrates River Water
Syrian Minister of Energy Engineer Mohammad Al-Bashir discussed today, Tuesday, with Iraqi Minister of Water Resources Aoun Diab Abdullah, the joint cooperation regarding the water of the Euphrates River, where a proposal was made to hold a tripartite meeting between Syria, Iraq, and Turkey to discuss issues related to the river's water.

During a meeting held in Baghdad today, Tuesday, the two sides discussed the water agreements of 1987 and 1989, which define each of the three countries' share of the Euphrates River water.

According to the "SANA" agency, the two ministers agreed to form joint technical teams to visit the measuring stations in Jarablus, northern Syria, and participate in water measurements, in addition to updating the monitoring devices and equipment to ensure the accuracy of the data related to the river's water.

The two sides discussed ways to cooperate between the two countries in areas of experience exchange, training, capacity building, and establishing a joint technical team for continuous communication between them.
