Director of the General Establishment of Electricity Transmission and Distribution in Syria Emphasizes the Importance of the Grant Provided by the World Bank in Improving the Electricity Situation in Syria

"SANA" quoted Abu Di as saying that the grant is part of a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate the energy sector, including rehabilitating 400 kilovolt high-voltage transmission lines, which are considered strategic lines in the network, especially on the regional connection axes with Turkey and Jordan. It is expected that these works will contribute to enhancing the network's stability and increasing its reliability at the regional level.
Abu Di also mentioned that the grant includes rehabilitating central transformer stations through maintenance and rehabilitation works of a number of main transformer stations, namely Aleppo 400 kilovolt F station, Aleppo D station, Aleppo suburb station, and Autaya 230 kilovolt station.
It also includes rehabilitating a number of 66 kilovolt transformer stations in areas such as Orm Al-Sughra in the countryside of Aleppo, Saraqib in the countryside of Idlib, Nashabiyah, Zamalka, and Al-Hajar Al-Aswad in the countryside of Damascus, as these stations are vital axes in the transmission and distribution of energy, and rehabilitating them will lead to the stability of the electricity service in wide areas.
Abu Di explained that part of the grant is allocated to securing maintenance materials and technical equipment to support the continuity of work of transformer stations in other areas, in addition to launching training and qualification programs for workers and technicians with the aim of enhancing local competencies and ensuring the readiness of personnel to deal with future technical challenges.
This support from the World Bank comes as part of international efforts aimed at enhancing the Syrian infrastructure's capacity to recover, representing an important boost to improving the electricity supply situation, especially in areas that have suffered significant damage in recent years.
