With great sorrow and sadness, the Egyptian Football Association announced in an official statement yesterday, Saturday, the death of Mohamed Abu El-Naga, the goalkeeper of the Egyptian national team and Wadi Degla club, after a long struggle with illness and entering a coma that lasted for several days.
The association confirmed through its official account that Engineer Hani Abou Rida, the president of the association, the board members, the executive director, the technical staff of the national teams, and the employees of the association mourn the talented goalkeeper "Bonga," who passed away after suffering from serious health issues.
Abu El-Naga had recently been suffering from gastrointestinal and liver diseases, specifically jaundice, which led to a sharp deterioration in his health condition, necessitating his transfer to the hospital and entering a coma.
Despite his improvement in the past days and his transfer from intensive care to a regular room, his condition deteriorated again on Friday, and he was transferred back to intensive care before passing away.
Abu El-Naga left a clear mark in the history of Wadi Degla, as he significantly contributed to the team's rise to the Egyptian Premier League after a four-year absence, having played 29 matches with the club.
He also had a distinguished record with clubs Petrojet and Al-Masry, and he was included in Coach Wael Riyad's list for the Egyptian national team during the match against South Africa last February.
