Damascus: Syrian-Swedish meeting to discuss security developments and enhance bilateral cooperation.

The Syrian Minister of Interior, Anas Khatib, met with a high-level delegation from the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital Damascus to discuss the latest security and political developments in Syria, and prospects for enhancing cooperation between the two countries.
The Swedish delegation included Mikael Lindvall, the Director-General for Consular Affairs at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Jescia Svardstrom, the Swedish Ambassador to Syria. The two sides discussed ways to enhance bilateral coordination on issues of mutual interest, according to a statement from the Syrian Ministry of Interior.
This meeting is part of a series of intensive meetings held by the Syrian Minister of Interior with European officials. He previously met with the German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser and her Austrian counterpart Gerhard Karner on April 27 to discuss security cooperation and common issues.
According to "Agence France-Presse," the meeting with the Swedish delegation addressed the current security situation in Syria, stability support plans, and the file of the return of Syrian refugees.
Discussions also touched on the necessity of negotiating with the "Syrian Transitional Government" on security issues, with Faeser previously emphasizing that the priority is to "deport criminals and extremists once the security conditions improve."
