China Imposes Restrictions on Purchasing Medical Devices from Europe

The Chinese Ministry of Finance announced today, Sunday, that it will impose restrictions on imports of medical devices coming from the European Union, exceeding a value of 45 million yuan (6.3 million dollars).

Bloomberg News Agency reported that "the Chinese restrictions come in response to the European Union's majority approval to restrict the access of Chinese medical device manufacturers to public procurement contracts in the European bloc".

It explained that "the European Union decided last June to exclude Chinese companies from any government purchases exceeding 5.89 million dollars in order to encourage China to stop its discrimination against European Union companies, accusing it of imposing major and repeated legal and administrative barriers to its procurement market".
