China Accuses Nvidia's Smart Chips "H20" of Being Unsafe and Calls for a Boycott

The account "Yuyuan Tantiang" affiliated with China Central Television (CCTV) issued a warning about the artificial intelligence chips "H20" provided by the American company Nvidia, pointing to security concerns regarding them.
A post on the "WeChat" platform stated: "These chips are neither technologically advanced nor environmentally friendly," adding: "When the chip is not environmentally friendly, not advanced, and not safe, we as consumers have the right not to buy it."
Chinese state media raised doubts about the existence of "backdoors" in the chips, which could allow remote access or control, prompting the Chinese Cyberspace Administration to summon Nvidia in late July to discuss these concerns. The company denied these accusations, asserting that its products "do not contain backdoors."
It is worth noting that Nvidia developed the "H20" chips specifically for the Chinese market after the American restrictions imposed by President Donald Trump's administration on the export of advanced chips at the end of 2023. Washington had banned sales of these chips last April, before reversing the decision in July.
