"Capable of Carrying Tactical Nuclear Weapons".. Britain Prepares to Buy New Fighter Jets

During his attendance at the NATO summit in The Hague, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a major strategic step, the most prominent since the end of the Cold War, which is the purchase of 12 F-35A fighter jets capable of carrying tactical nuclear bombs of the B61-12 model supplied by the United States.
For the first time since 1998, Britain is restoring the capability for aerial launch of nuclear weapons, after the withdrawal of WE-177 bombs at that time, according to Reuters.
Starmer explained during the speech that the purchase of these aircraft comes amidst a "period of profound uncertainty" and the escalating threats from Russia, as well as the diminishing traditional role of the United States in Europe, necessitating Britain to enhance its defense capabilities.
