Building Collapse in Alexandria Leaves Dead and Injured.. Governor Forms Urgent Engineering Committee

A residential building partially collapsed this morning, Sunday, July 7, in the Attarin area in downtown Alexandria, resulting in the death of one person and injury of 6 others, according to preliminary data.
Security sources and local officials confirmed that civil defense and rescue teams immediately intervened to rescue those trapped under the rubble. Ahmed Khaled Hassan Saeed, the Governor of Alexandria, visited the scene of the incident to oversee the rescue operations, accompanied by police officials, civil defense personnel, the district chief, and executive officials.
According to the district chief, the collapsed building is located at 138 Khedive Street - corner of Salah El-Din Street, with an area of approximately 300 square meters, consisting of a ground floor, four upper floors, in addition to a part of a fifth floor, and includes 6 residential units and commercial activities on the ground floor.
The official explained that the building was inhabited, and an administrative decision was issued in 1993 to demolish the fourth floor and the part related to the fifth floor while renovating the rest of the building, but the decision was not implemented, which may have been one of the reasons for the disaster.
The Governor announced the formation of an urgent engineering committee to inspect the collapsed building, review its technical file, as well as assess the safety of adjacent properties, emphasizing providing all medical care to the injured and monitoring the debris removal operations.
Investigations are still ongoing to determine the full reasons behind the collapse, while rescue teams continue their efforts to ensure there are no other trapped individuals.
