Belgium to Participate with Several Countries in Jordanian Operation to Airdrop Aid to Gaza

Belgium announced on Wednesday that it will participate with several countries in an operation coordinated by Jordan to airdrop aid to Gaza, while UN agencies warned that the region is on the brink of famine.
The foreign and defense ministries said that a Belgian plane carrying medical equipment and food supplies worth approximately 600,000 euros (690,000 dollars) will soon head to Jordan, where it will remain on standby to carry out airdrop operations in coordination with Amman.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Ministry of Health reported 7 deaths in the past twenty-four hours due to famine and malnutrition, bringing the total number of famine victims to 154, including around 90 children.
According to a warning issued by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification released yesterday, Gaza is facing the risk of severe famine as food consumption and nutrition indicators have reached their worst levels since the beginning of the current conflict.
The report indicated that two out of the three famine thresholds have been exceeded in parts of Gaza, with the World Food Programme and UNICEF warning that time is running out to launch a comprehensive humanitarian response.
A joint press release issued by UN agencies stated that "the ongoing conflict, the collapse of basic services, and severe restrictions on the delivery and distribution of humanitarian aid imposed on the United Nations have all led to catastrophic food security conditions for hundreds of thousands of people across Gaza".
