Finance Minister Mohammad Yaser Barniya said today, Monday, that the decision to increase salaries by 200% announced by President Ahmad al-Shara comes within a comprehensive series aimed at reforming the salary and wage system in Syria in both the public and private sectors.

In a statement to Al Jazeera, Barniya added: "This increase represents the first phase of the reform process and aims to improve the purchasing power of employees, alleviate their living burdens, and stimulate economic activity."

Barniya confirmed that the Syrian government is working within a comprehensive plan to address the distortions in the salary and wage structure.

He pointed out that state revenues are witnessing a noticeable improvement and that the financial deficit in the budget is controlled, and the government has the capacity to finance this deficit from non-inflationary sources.

He added that all employees whose salaries were suspended during the past period, who have not been proven to be linked to any criminal activities, will have their salaries fully reinstated retroactively, reflecting the government's commitment to job justice and ensuring the rights of workers.
