US Delegation Discusses Lifting Sanctions on Syria in Meetings with Turkish, Syrian, and Iraqi Officials

The US Consulate in Istanbul announced a visit by a delegation from the US Treasury Department to Turkey for discussions with officials from Turkey, Syria, and Iraq regarding the lifting of sanctions on Syria, with an emphasis on Washington's readiness to support Damascus in enhancing efforts to combat money laundering and terrorist financing.
According to the consulate statement, as reported by Anadolu Agency, the US delegation is led by Anna Morris, Acting Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Counterterrorism, and arrived in Ankara last Sunday.
The statement explained that the delegation is holding meetings in Ankara and Istanbul with representatives from the governments and financial institutions of the three countries, focusing on President Donald Trump's decision to lift sanctions imposed on Syria.
The US Treasury Department emphasized its commitment to providing technical support to the new Syrian administration to enhance its capabilities in combating financial crimes, as part of efforts to support stability in Syria.
It is worth noting that President Trump had signed a decision at the end of June to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria, after announcing this step from Saudi Arabia in mid-May, when those sanctions were previously imposed to punish the former regime for the war on the Syrian people.
