Sheikh "Mohammed Rateb Al-Nabulsi" has retracted his controversial statement recently through an official statement posted on Facebook.
Al-Nabulsi previously stated, "Supporting the Sharia and its government is an obligation on every Muslim, and those who do not do so are sinners."
The Sheikh's statement read: "The Syrian experience is a nascent one that came after difficult labor and great sacrifices, and its success will, God willing, have a great impact on the future of our country and the region."
He added: "I have always emphasized our ethical duty to support this experience and its management through endorsement, advice, evaluation, and rectification, all with wisdom and good counsel."
He continued: "If I spoke about obligation in the wrong context, it was due to the severity of the errors I witnessed and the intense pressure on this experience since its inception, without considering the heavy legacy and the crises it has left behind, which can only be resolved through support, unity, and rallying of the people around those who have undertaken it."
He concluded: "Therefore, I reiterate that supporting a similar experience with this government that emerged from the womb of the revolution or any government chosen by the people is the need of the hour, stemming from both religious and national principles simultaneously."
