Al-Bal'ous: Commitment to the Ceasefire Map Will Achieve Security Within Weeks

Laith Al-Bal'ous, a leader in the "Men of Dignity" movement, confirmed that the province of Sweida is witnessing a shift towards a new phase of stability and security, emphasizing full partnership with the institutions of the Syrian state. He pointed out that efforts are underway to eradicate manifestations of chaos and crime in coordination with security and judicial agencies.
In a special statement to the "Syrian News" channel, Al-Bal'ous stressed that "protecting the unity of the country is a non-negotiable priority," affirming that "the people of Sweida are an integral part of the Syrian state." He also called for an end to the spread of random weapons and the promotion of a culture of national belonging within a comprehensive project.
Al-Bal'ous clarified that enhancing societal awareness and conducting an open dialogue with national partners are fundamental pillars for achieving comprehensive reconciliation in southern Syria. He added that the people of Sweida are providing full cooperation with security and judicial institutions to pursue those involved in crimes and violations.
He revealed that the province has "passed the most dangerous phase," expecting a complete return to stability within weeks thanks to adherence to the ceasefire map and the control of loose weapons. He also called for unifying the national discourse and engaging in a comprehensive project that enhances unity.
Al-Bal'ous's statements came in the wake of the recent security tensions witnessed in Sweida, where the Syrian Ministry of Justice announced the formation of a committee to investigate the events, which is to submit its final report within three months.
Clashes had erupted on July 13 between local armed groups and Bedouin tribes, leading to the intervention of government forces. Israel also launched airstrikes on July 16 near the General Staff headquarters in Damascus, claiming to "defend the Druze."
Syrian forces withdrew from Sweida on July 17 after a ceasefire agreement, but clashes continued until the Syrian presidency announced an "immediate" ceasefire on July 19, coinciding with the deployment of security forces. The United States also announced on the same day an agreement between Syria and Israel to cease fire.
