The Court of Appeal in Marsa Matrouh city upheld the ruling against "Ahmed Fotouh," the first-team player of Zamalek Football Club, on charges of using cannabis. The court rejected his defense's appeal objectively and ordered him to pay the criminal expenses.
According to the ruling, the player will be sentenced to one year in prison with a three-year suspension, in addition to a fine of 20,000 Egyptian pounds.
During the appeal session, the defense team requested the annulment of the verdict and the acquittal of their client, expressing doubts about the accuracy of the medical report and the reports of the central laboratories in the forensic medicine sector, which, according to them, did not contain conclusive evidence. However, the court rejected these objections and upheld the ruling issued by the criminal court.
It is worth mentioning that the Criminal Court of Marsa Matrouh issued a decision on November 16, 2024, to imprison Ahmed Fotouh for one year with a suspension, fine him 20,000 pounds, and revoke his driver's license, on charges of causing the death of citizen "Ahmed El Shabaki" (55 years old) in New Alamein City.
The player was driving his car at a speed exceeding 120 km/h under the influence of drugs in the early hours of August 14 last year, which led to running over the victim before reaching a settlement and closing the criminal case with a financial compensation.
