French media reports revealed that Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi, player of Paris Saint-Germain, is facing a serious legal development in a rape case that could put him at risk of up to 20 years in prison.

According to the French newspaper "Le Parisien", the public prosecutor in Nanterre officially requested on August 1 to refer Hakimi to court, following investigations related to a young woman's claim that he sexually assaulted her at his home on February 25, 2023, based on the results of an investigation that lasted more than two years.

Although this request is not mandatory, it represents a crucial step in the case, as the final decision rests with the investigating judge who can either dismiss the case or refer it to the specialized criminal court in the "Hauts-de-Seine" region.

If a referral decision is made, Hakimi will be tried before a court specialized in rape crimes, which issues prison sentences ranging from 15 to 20 years, according to French law as per "Le Parisien".

The potential trial is expected to take place at the end of 2026 or during 2027, after all levels of appeal have been exhausted, including appeals and cassation.
