In a shocking incident reflecting the escalation of violence among children and adolescents, and highlighting the lack of supervision and community awareness, a 14-year-old boy died by choking late last night at the hands of one of his friends, following a fight that broke out over a popular video game.
According to local sources in the city of Qamishli in the northern Hasakah province, the incident occurred around midnight in the Qudurbek neighborhood, where a number of children were sitting on a sidewalk playing 'PUBG' on their mobile phones.
The virtual disagreement within the game escalated into a real and violent fight, ending with one of the boys choking the victim after losing in the game.
The sources reported that the family of the deceased boy was unaware of the details of what happened, only discovering the next day (at one o'clock in the afternoon) that their son had died, which led them to burn down the house of the family of the boy accused of committing the crime, in an act reflecting the magnitude of shock and public anger.
In contrast, reports indicated that the families of the children involved in the incident left their homes and fled for fear of escalation and revenge, amid a state of severe tension prevailing in the neighborhood.
This horrific crime brings attention back to the dangers of video games in the absence of parental and community supervision, especially in environments suffering from fragility in educational and teaching structures.
